Message from the Editor

I am pleased and excited to present the first issue of the joint BACI-CFI Newsletter. BACI and CFI have had a long history of working together for the same causes, so it is only natural to also share one newsletter that covers statewide issues.

There are important issues confronting California interpreters today, the most important being SB371 and the Judicial Council's model contract and discipline procedures. As editor, I feel it is my duty to keep interpreters informed as to the latest developments affecting interpreters. At the same time, I would like to include more general interest stories related to our profession in the newsletter, so I encourage you to submit articles, anecdotes and announcements that you feel are of interest to interpreters.

The nature of our work tends to make interpreters feel disconnected and alienated from each other. It is my hope that this newsletter will help close that gap between us. After all, despite minor variations, our experiences are quite similar.
