Ever since September 11, the FBI has been testing and recruiting Arabic interpreters. Do the testing methods they use ensure that the best qualified Arabic interpreters are hired? Read the June 1, 2002, editorial/op-ed piece of the New York Times, "Lost in Translation at the F.B.I.," by Geoff D. Porter. At the local level, the Silicon Valley/San Jose Business Journal published an article on June 10 about the difficulty of finding competent interpreters for the California courts.
