Participation: the Missing Ingredient in Interpreters' Struggle for Fairness
By Mark McCaffrey

What's the difference between participation and input? Well, how about this: Interpreters' participation in the development of a contract would mean having a hand in shaping the terms of the contract, rather like the several chefs in the movie "Big Night" who together prepare the fabulous dinner. It's a joint effort. Our "input" would merely be our best recipe, submitted as in a bake-off.

Other chefs review it and if they want to use it they can. If not, they send you a polite letter wishing you better luck next year. CFI believes in participation. The Judicial Council believes in "input".
