Update on Senate Bill 927, Domestic Violence
By Eric Bishop

According to the Judicial Council's Office of Governmental Affairs, SB927 is hung up in the Senate Appropriations Committee. As currently written, SB927 would provide for the use of certified and registered interpreters in family law cases related to domestic violence. The Judicial Council has estimated the cost of providing such interpretation to be three to four million dollars. This is the same bill which would require interpreters to complete three hours of continuing education every two years on domestic violence as a part of their current continuing education requirement.
