News Flash...

Court employees in Santa Cruz just concluded a contract after a one-day strike. Among the gains, the court reporters—one of only two groups in the county who, according to our sources, did not have steps—were given three pay steps, with employees being slotted in to the grid according to existing seniority.

Region 2, which includes the Santa Cruz court interpreters, has just started reopener negotiations. Our proposal for steps so far has been rejected by the court's negotiators.

The pattern continues—what's good for other employees is too good for us.

Why are we treated so differently?

La Opinion hot on the Trail

At least someone in the press is paying attention. On Tuesday, La Opinion ran another story about the effects our strike is having on the system.

According to the article, many non-English speaking prisoners are spending more time in jail because their cases are not being timely processed.

The story can be read at www.laopinion.com

Post-Picket Potluck Party

Striker Daniel Felix has graciously extended an invitation to fellow strikers to gather at his house this Friday afternoon beginning at 5:00 p.m.

Attendees are asked to bring what they can for the dinner. But if you can't bring anything (we are on strike), don't let that stop you. The fun will include music, dancing, karaoke and the extraordinary good fellowship that only people who have fought together can know.
