SAY WHAT?
Strikers Pledge to Fight On
In picket line meetings around the city, CFI strikers pledged on Friday to stay out until an acceptable agreement is reached with the Court.
CWA Leaders Join Picket Line
CWA President Larry Cohen and District 9 Vice President Tony Bixler visited our Pomona picket line on Friday. Cohen and Bixler met with CFI picketers Angela de la Paz Tapia, Paul Son, Ana Castro and Albert Huong, among others.
As we enter October, the number of our members with the courage to see this battle through to the end is still well over 90%. This must come as a real shock to those in the administration who thought we would fold in a few days. Of course, if those same administrators had recognized our worth, we wouldn't be out here in the first place.
Monday's the Day... Don't Forget:
Benvenuto Giovanni Bash!
The color is blue, come strut your most electric peacock blue.
We're going to welcome our prodigal administrator, John Clarke, back from his vacation in Italy.
Where: We'll meet at CCB. From there, so as not to ruin the surprise, we'll march as silently as we normally do to
John's home at CCH (Stanley Mosk Plaza).
We'll show John what we've learned about unity (and drumming) while he was away. Colleagues and supporters- all of you out there who've quietly stayed away all these weeks. Please join us on Monday. Let's finish this together by maintaining and affirming our unity.
Short-Checked?
Proving once again how petty and vindictive this administration can be, the Court shorted strikers a day's holiday pay in the checks issued on Friday. CFI is pursuing the matter.
Bar Hopping
CFI hates to miss an opportunity to have fun while delivering our message. So we went bar hopping. The California State Bar Association, that is.
On Friday, three of our own went to the Association's annual meeting in Anaheim and handed out pamphlets about the issues behind our strike and the problems the labor dispute is causing in the courts.
Thanks to our Contributors:
As of Thursday, nearly $22,000 has been contributed to our strike fund. This money is going directly to strikers in need. A huge CFI thank you to the individuals who contributed and to these organizations:
Pacific Northwest Newspaper Guild
The Youngstown Newspaper Guild
CWCIA- Calif. Worker's Comp. Interp. Assoc.
Translation 2000, Inc. Montebello
San Jose Newspaper Guild (CWA Local 39098)
International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers
Newspaper Guild of Detroit
Thank you all!
